i once got high with joan baez's son. this was about 15 years ago. he was the very close friend of my friend's ex husband. he was an idiot and hated his mother. he was a white rasta, which i think is stupid, but he was nice, and i felt bad for him, because she's a narcissist! for his 18th birthday, she gave him a photo of herself that was signed, as if he was a fan:
"to my son, on the occasion of his 18th birthday and the (whatever year) anniversary of my career."
when i was in san francisco this summer, i saw she was playing in the circus. i thought it was fitting!

А про песенный фольклор - удивительно даже читать. На мой взгляд, только там кристаллы и бывают.

Баез в массе всяко раздражает.
Но она и не фольклор. Просто на заре карьеры очень здорово и вечно исполнила популярную балладу - broadside с гэльскими корнями. Использовалась сия баллада в 60-е многими товарищами (Донован, etc.) в спекулятивных целях - возраст часто изменялся на "призывной" и погибель лирического героя наступала в 18 лет со всеми вытекающими аллюзиями.
Но в данном случае ничего не отнять - Джоан исполнила эту вещь так, что все остальное из современных интерпретаций напоминает жалобное блеяние или глуповатое и неуместное кантри.
