how would you go about colorizing this egg?

this is the best i could come up with

select egg=>turn brightness down=>create new Color layer=>paint over=>turn down opacity of the Color layer.

but i don't quite like the result. so what's the best way to do it?

Here what i get with a quick Selective Correction
*but i'm not too satisfied either cuz my initial selection sucked*

Here's my selection matted on black. The selection has some transparency because its a composite of 'color selections'. I then paint bucketed the selection with that brown color. Notice the selection picked up some of the foreground. I kept this for color reflection.

I then used different blending methods. The selection is bad on the shadow side but I didn't want to go back ;) lazy... This one is using 'color burn'. The reflection is a little dark

This blend was using 'color'...The reflection looks nice in this one...

This one used 'linear burn' as the blend method. The reflection in this one is too dark but the egg color is nice and subtle.

i think the last one looks very nice (except the reflection). not that i quite understood the process you used, but i'll try to make it out!

Here's one that's easy. Select egg=> paint bucket selection (solid color)=> set blend method to 'linear burn'=> adjust opacity
