No, I am an American and my only origins are German/Amish, Native American, and Scots-Irish. This is why I wondered about the playground figures. Our playgrounds (http://photos.welfy.com/pearsonpark01) have some strange creatures too! Children like to climb on them.
I do not know how to explain it, but your photos and other photos by Russians I've seen have a very whimsical quality that I can distinguish from other photos. Maybe it's the different culture. What fantastic things you capture on film! Though my boyfriend finds a lot of interesting things in his travels too, like a chainsaw garden! i asked because you're 'baba yaga the beautiful' and you look very much like a russian girl on that userpic. i just thought that 'baba yaga' wouldn't ring any bells to a westerner
I've been told I look European on several occasions. I got the "LJ name" Baba Yaga the Beautiful from a post I made here (http://www.livejournal.com/community/selfportraits/5399508.html). The first comment, from a suspended user, said, "BABA YAGA!" in Russian. I bet he didn't think I knew who Baba Yaga was, but I've heard some of her stories since childhood. You are right though; I doubt many people in America know who Baba Yaga is without researching her name on the internet first. :^)
The boyfriend also takes pictures of shoe trees. Do you have any shoe trees in Russia? If not, you and some friends could always create one! The most interesting one he found was in Nevada (http://photos.soopageek.com/v/12-05-2004) but there's one at my old university, only 30 minutes away.
sorry, i somehow missed this comment. we do have shoe trees, but with much fewer shoes... and i even photographed one once, but i will never find the picture, of course. ( i think baba yaga isn't as offensive a name as witch (ved'ma in russian), it's more of a dear funny folklore character. on the other hand, she bakes little shildren in her stove!
