i am afraid of mcdonald's managers, populated supermarkets' check-out girls and hot dog stand women (ok, hot dog stand women are the only exception). i feel both sheepish and pitiful towards them - which is a deadly mix - especially towards those young consumer electronics store managers, always young, always skinny, always bored, cynical, and wildly unhappy. it's like peeping into someone's hell while they pretend to be serving you - but in a wry, derisive way.
but there are born salesepeople who enjoy it. those i love and want to kiss all over

I feel that way when I'm behind a register, pretending to care for the customer with an obnoxious "HI!" to greet their presence. Sometime it becomes a habit, and I do not understand I must do this for $6.75 an hour.
