He gave a good example of a Russian celebrity and what's going on in local magazines and on TV. They call it "glamuuurr". So it goes.

That's why more and more people can't stand television anymore - one channel of 40-80 is obviously not enough.

Yeah - it looks like pre-Beatles America - squeeky-clean and so very managed. Though (the early) Johnny Farnham's from late 60s Australia.

That's my point. Have you ever looked into the popular music in the US between the (apparent) death of Rock and Roll at the end of the 50s and the advent of the Beatles in the mid 60s?

I think you are talking about visual images, not about music itself. For them, it remained only to look after their outfit, appearance and retro styling, because their so-called "music" is horrible. Lucky you never heard such a bullshit. The like things goes on TV, and TV bosses
justify this permanent disgrace by saying "People eat it". Ha-ha, I read that jobs on television stop being prestigious anymore (it was, earlier), and it serves them right.

Those polished swell guys in grey suits from 50s in America and England... they sang sweet though silly songs, stupid though nice, imho.

It might be that you don't know what I'm talking about. It's this kind of thing...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=1sHTejav6Wk

(With apologies to The McGuire Sisters.) Saccharine and what was considered suitable for the teenagers of the day.

I've just checked out your Baskov though, and I assume this is who you mean...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=xrRIjcSi5G4

? To me it just sounds like European Pop, and the kind of thing you might see in the Eurovision Song Contest, just not as weird. Annoying if it's what you get every time you turn the TV on I guess...

But enough of crap! Here's some proper music vids from NZ in the 80s, when stuff was good...

First, probably our most popular song ever - now get's sung very badly at rugby matches and the like. Was the theme to our one and only feature cartoon...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=dju_WrVLCME

Followed by this, which is just good pop...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=0kf2CpsTbV0

and the most infectious protest song you've ever heard...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=UZ2A3z3WUzM

and, (glory be!), this...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=4DfJc0Une5g

which is the one to watch V, if you've only time for one. Then get back to your animation!

Fades to black...

Thanks for sharing NZ music, they all are nice. Dave Dobbyn I liked most of all. They say it's unofficial anthem :). Tall Dwarfs' vid is funny, cool and looks fresh though you said it's from 80s.

You got me think about what I like in Russian "pop" music. The only guy (and his group) I like is not very popular now. They are from 80-90, well, they compose until now, just the music isn't as good as it was then. What I appreciate especially about them is that their songs are original and have the touch of traditional sound - drawling, dramatic, serious. I was surprised to find their vids on YouTube and decided to make posts about them - that would be interesting, what do you think, so feel free to express your opinion.

Dave Dobbyn's near enough to our most successful song writer. He's had many hits over quite a few decades. Oh yes, and it was proved in court that he didn't start the Queen Street Riot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Dobbyn)!

The Tall Dwarf's video would be from 81 or 82, as there's bits on the TV from the 1981 Springbok Tour here, (which also featured riots), as well as Prince Charles' wedding, also in 81. Plus a countdown of our top 20 songs for one of those weeks!

I like your Aquarium videos. The words are lost on me of course, but the feel of the songs comes through well. He's good - and those could only have come out of Russia.

Some reckon videos detract from the song, but when they're in a foreign language they can act as a form of translation.

Yeah, these vids are ingformative enough about what matters the songs really are. When I started to listen to Pink Floyd I understood not one word, and still it was amazing. Also, I listened to French chant songs, and there were no need in comprehension, it was beautiful as it sounded. In case of art a message gets through all barriers, imho...
In case you got interested in BG, here I have uploaded a few songs from 1999. These aren't his own work, they are cover versions of another our legendary musician from 60-70s Bulat Okudjava.
Sorry for the spoilt coding of titles, I added the list of songs below, as a reply

No - the file's just text - it's not a link. There'a a 'Please enter PJS here' at the top with a box to enter text in an a 'Download' link beside it, but what use that is I don't know.
