I was thinking of the numbers of hits you get with the two terms. Though the numbers are quite similar for...

and...

http://www.google.com/search?&q=%22clay+model%22

You with me yet? :-)

i know, but did you originally suggest that 'sculptor' is a wrong word for someone who makes clay, or even plasticine, for that matter, heads? hah?

Yeah, that's what I originally meant. My feeling is that 'sculpt' means more to cut or chip away, whereas modeling is more akin to shaping something. But, take your pick...

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/sculpt "...to carve, model, or make by using the techniques of sculpture."

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/model "...to fashion in clay, wax, or the like."

But whatever, she's still a bloke I reckon! ;-)

you know, that's all because you're an n-zealander. i'm translating about marsupials right now, and i'm sure that they are right in saying that island fauna in your part of the world represent a dead-end of the evolution, because this is weird to have a pouch, and you can't survive in the real world, where there is a competition, if you have to carry your offspring around in a pouch for 190 days. my guess is that what you're trying to teach me is also, in a way, a dead end of the english language evolution, which naturally took root in your part of the world. and do you know why i wrote this windy comment? BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO TRANSLATE THAT TEXT ABOUT KOALA

well, isn't that weird, for example:
The female has two vaginas, both of which open externally through one orifice but lead to different compartments within the uterus. Males usually have a two-pronged penis which corresponds to the females' two vaginas. The penis only passes sperm. Marsupials have a cloaca [1] [2] that is connected to a urogenital sac in both sexes. Waste is stored there before expulsion

But we don't have marsupials in New Zealand - they're Australian! What's more, Australians speak strine, and we don't, so you really don't know what you're talking about, do you?

I'd point you towards a Barry Humphries video if you had broadband, but since you don't I'll spare you, and just give you a Sir Lesley Patterson photo from an Australian Government cultural site as an indication of what you're dealing with...

No - he doesn't do science, just the arts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_Les_Patterson)...

And we have nothing like him, though he's a good example of a typical member of the Australian establishment.

You need to do more study if you're going to be writing about Australians!

Yeah - but then I thought - you had Boris Yeltsin, so it's not as though you won't recognize the type!
