yes, Jackdaws are interesting birds! We don't have them in the Western hemisphere. this is what our magpie looked like--he was a special kind only found in calfornia:

yes, he was in a cage, because we always had cats! his cage was very large, though. his parents abandoned him before he was weaned, and he was stuck in a tree. he literally fell into a net i was holding underneath him, from exhaustion. he didn't know how to fly. i had to hand-feed him until he got older, but we couldn't release him because he didn't know how to survive in the wild. he was amazing--very smart and sweet.

it doesn't look like our magpie at all. also, our magpies, unlike most other crow-like birds here, are very shy
