i think that he is a very good and honest person, but with a much greater share of optimism than an average person. hence, his hopes for mr. putin. a person with an average share of optimism won't undertake dismantling soviet union, and won't introduce glasnost in a country with largely totalitarian traditions and mindsets. besides, think of all the russian intellectuals who supported russia abroad after the communist revolution, returned from emigration and were purged. it's an old story.
